About Me

brodie@brodiegrant.com

Brodie Grant is a full time volunteer teacher at the Place of Grace Foundation, a school in one of the largest slum communities in Bangkok. All the students are from disadvantaged backgrounds, having no parents, or parents / carers who are abusive, addicted to drugs or incarcerated.

On the outskirts of Bangkok, away from the tourists, skyscrapers, and mega malls, lies a slum community where life is a daily battle for survival. Here, children grow up in a condition that will break your heart—cramped, unsafe homes; little to no access to proper healthcare or education; and an environment where abuse, addiction, and crime are all too common.

These fragile families are from very disadvantaged backgrounds, with kids having no parents, or parents/carers who are abusive, addicted to drugs, or incarcerated.

For many of these kids, the future is bleak. Without intervention, they are likely to be sucked into the broken cycle around them, facing a path that often leads to teenage pregnancy, drug addiction, or even imprisonment.

But their story doesn’t have to end there.

For our students to have a real chance at success, we must first address the daily struggles that threaten to hold them back. Many come from homes that are unsafe, neglectful, or unable to provide even the most basic necessities. That’s why we always ensure no child goes hungry—offering meals to those who can’t afford lunch and running a weekly food bank for families in need. Then we begin to address their education, helping each child at their individual level. More than just education, we provide a safe space where students know they are seen, loved, valued, and cared for. Unfortunately, at times, this has even meant stepping in to provide shelter for children in dangerous situations. Thanks to God’s provision, our foundation has a safehouse where we can protect and care for those who have nowhere else to go.

As a full-time volunteer teacher at Place of Grace Foundation, I’m working to provide these children with a lifeline: a quality education, life skills, and the opportunity to earn internationally recognized diplomas. These tools allow them to escape the cycle of poverty, find dignity, and build a better future for themselves, their families, and their community.

I am committed to not just teaching these kids basic Math and English, but transforming their lives holistically. Our school uses an education program that empowers children to break free from the cycle of poverty. From Grade 1 to 12, we focus on four key areas—Education, Mercy Ministry, Discipline and Truth, and Entrepreneurship—laying the foundation for our students to thrive both during and after high school. These pillars are not part of a curriculum; they are keys to a better future.

EDUCATION

Learning English and Earning a Diploma Creates Life-Changing Opportunities

At the heart of our mission is the belief that education can change everything. We offer an all-English curriculum designed to equip our students with essential knowledge and skills for a globalized world. Knowing English will give them hundreds more opportunities than their family members before them, many of whom are unfortunately illiterate or only educated to a primary school level. Beyond academics, we teach practical life skills that many of our kids would otherwise never learn at home, such as critical thinking and decision-making. The most exciting part of this is the opportunity to earn an internationally recognized high school diploma—opening doors to college, employment, and a brighter future that once seemed impossible.

MERCY MINISTRY

Providing Food, Safety, and Support for Kids in Crisis

For our students to succeed, we must first address the harsh realities of their daily lives. Many come from homes that are unsafe, neglectful, or struggling to provide basic needs. Daily, we ensure that no child goes hungry, offering meals for those who can’t afford lunch and operating a weekly food bank for surrounding communities. We create a safe space where students know they are seen, cared for, and valued—because no one can learn when they’re battling hunger or fear. On occasion, we have had to take students into our care because of lack of safety in the home. God has blessed our foundation with a safehouse and the resources to be able to protect these children from harm.

DISCIPLINE AND TRUTH

Teaching Respect, Responsibility, and Values

Our approach to discipline is rooted in love and Biblical principles. We teach our students that they are valued and loved, no matter their past. Here, they can make mistakes without the fear of abuse or punishment that many have grown accustomed to. Through daily lessons in respect, self-discipline, and responsibility, we help them build character and habits that will serve them for life. Even small victories, like learning to wake up on time when no one else in their home cares to wake them, become monumental steps toward independence and self-worth.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Encouraging Students to Dream Beyond Survival and Build Their Own Future

I believe that our students are capable of more than just following the path laid out for them—they are capable of creating their own. Having grown up in an entrepreneurial home myself, I desire to build entrepreneurship into all my lessons, teaching them to think outside the box and dream big. By equipping them with business skills and the mindset to pursue their aspirations, we prepare them not just to survive, but to thrive. Whether they want to start their own business or pursue a specific dream, we give them the tools and encouragement to make it a reality.

Together, these four pillars create a pathway for our students to step into a life of opportunity, dignity, and hope. Every lesson, meal, and encouragement plants a seed of transformation. With your help, together we can continue this life-changing work and empower even more children to rise above their circumstances.
